Brad began his career in industrial control systems in 1985 in Silicon Valley working for a global printed circuit board manufacturer. He then assisted Paramount Pictures modernize control systems for roller coasters and themed attractions across the US in their five park acquisition “Paramount Parks”. Brad then worked for Control System Specialist as a project manager. Here he managed large control system projects around San Francisco’s Bay Area. After many years of managing several million dollars in automation projects, he founded his own firm in 2003 focusing on automation projects for the food and beverage industry. Automation Group has grown to be one the largest automation firms in California by partnering with the region’s leading food and beverage manufactures to develop world class automation solutions.

Randy began his career in industrial control systems in 2002 in the Central Valley, working for a global manufacturer and marketer of colors, flavors, and fragrances. He then worked for a wholesale manufacturer and distributor of breads, baked goods, and mixes. Randy worked on control systems within their bakery and mix divisions. In 2006, Randy began his career with Automation Group, initially named Industrial PLC. His first job with AG was that as a controls engineer working on food and beverage process projects. Randy went on to manage large control system process projects in and outside the US. He advanced across multiple positions from controls engineer, controls service manager, project manager, program manager, director, vice president, senior vice president, to most recently, president. Randy’s leadership and commitment to success, coupled with the amazing partnerships built with some of the world’s largest consumer packaged goods companies, has helped Automation Group become one of the largest and most successful systems integrators in California.

Casey Noonan

Director of PMO and Sales

Casey’s journey started in 2011 while studying electrical engineering at California State University, Sacramento. During his junior year, he completed an internship as a controls engineer at a local steel mill. In this role, he learned about control systems and their impact on shaping the world around us. After graduating, he decided to make a career out of it. Over time his passion changed from technical work to leadership. In 2017, Casey was recognized by Control Engineering magazine as an emerging leader under 40. His roles at Automation Group have evolved over the years from controls engineer, project manager, program manager, to his current role of director of PMO and sales. This position allows him to stay engaged with the execution of projects while simultaneously spearheading growth in new territories and industries.

Director of PMO, Solutions, & Manufacturing

James began his career in industrial control systems in 2010, working for Automation Group as a draftsman. After two years, he was quickly promoted to the controls engineer position. During his five-year career as a controls engineer, James helped implement numerous extensive controls projects with food and beverage companies around the Central Valley. He was promoted to a project manager in 2017, where he managed large control system projects for significant food and beverage companies. After five years as a successful project manager, he was promoted to the role of manufacturing, solutions, and PMO director. James helps manage customer relations with several of Automation Group’s significant customers in this role. James also mentors project managers on project execution methods and customer relations. As the director of manufacturing, James has increased control of panel quality and sales which led Automation Group to increase its market share within the control panel manufacturing space.

Will Rochte

Senior Engineering Manager

Will has been in the wine and spirits industry for the past decade, starting as a hobby, and developing into a career endeavor. After living in the craft spirit world and seeing the launch of several small distilleries, he decided to explore the other extreme. Working with E & J Gallo Winery, he could see the rest of the picture. After stints in sales, tank farms, project management, systems engineering, and people leadership, a new passion started to grow. Will joined Automation Group in 2021 to focus entirely on growing his people leadership, learn how a successful small business runs, and continuously challenge himself with learning intense technical information from his team.

Dan started his automation journey in 2017 with an introduction to the industry from a recruiting standpoint. For several years he provided best-in-class recruitment services to various organizations, including Automation Group. With the excitement happening at Automation Group and the bright future ahead, Dan wanted to be a part of the company and joined the team in 2022 as the director of strategic growth. While Dan is responsible for leading the company’s internal growth, his role has also expanded to include business development, market research, and promotion of the Automation Group brand.

April has a great deal of experience regarding financial management, accounting operations, reporting, and analysis with more than twenty years of accounting experience in the agriculture and manufacturing fields. April’s roles have evolved over the years from staff accountant, accounting supervisor, assistant controller, to her current role of controller. April has served as a board member for Safety First Shooting Association – River Oaks Firearms Training Center in Winton, CA since January 2015 and is currently the treasurer. Her past positions have also included board director, education committee, and 4H youth leader. April is also an NRA firearms instructor and RSO.

Julia began her career in human resources and talent management in 2009 as the head of admissions for Paul Mitchell The School Modesto. Here, she found her passion for connecting people to their purpose and providing career path guidance. In 2013, Julia returned to California State University, Stanislaus, where she would complete her bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in human resource management. Prior to graduating in 2018, she obtained a career in the wine industry in human resources with E & J Gallo Winery, supporting coastal operations and hospitality. In 2020, she joined the retail grocery industry with Whole Foods Market as a global field talent acquisition recruiter, overseeing five states and providing strategic consultation to the executive operations leadership team as they expanded their territories and navigated through a pandemic. She earned her Master of Business Administration in 2022 and joined Automation Group as their human resources manager, where she hopes to serve as a deliberate business partner as the company continues to grow.

Ryan’s career in automation began in January 2015 with Rexel USA. At that time, Ryan was looking for an opportunity to support his burgeoning family while also being able to devote time to his passion for coaching high school basketball. Years of sales experience and training paired with a solid technical aptitude allowed Ryan to hit the ground running as an industrial account manager in the greater Modesto Area. In this role, Ryan was responsible for maintaining & growing Rexel’s market share in automation (Rockwell Automation & Encompass Partners), electrical commodity items, and technical services. In his six years at Rexel, Ryan developed strong relationships throughout the industry with customers, manufacturing partners, and service partners. These relationships led to Ryan joining Automation Group in February of 2021. At Automation Group, Ryan has established himself with his dedication and enthusiasm each day, leading to his current role as director of business development. During this time, Ryan also developed a passion and appreciation for the value automation brings to the world. Thomas is a business development director in Dallas, Texas.  He has over 20 years of experience in the field of industrial automation, having worked for multiple large companies in various capacities.  He is well-versed in sales, account management, marketing, and technical design. Thomas is passionate about developing and executing strategic solutions for his clients.  He leverages all available resources internally and externally to identify profitable solutions with short ROIs for his clients. In his current role as business development director at Automation Group, Thomas is responsible for creating new growth opportunities, increasing and developing a customer base, and improving customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Business Development Manager

Ryan started his career in industrial sales in 2013 with Wika Instruments in Orange County after graduating from California State University, Fullerton. Building on his background in instrumentation, he would learn the industrial automation world by selling Siemens products and later spend three years with Rockwell Automation. Ryan has been fortunate to be able to spend his career focused on several different industries and has developed specific expertise in consumer packaged goods, water/wastewater, and building materials. He joined Automation Group in a business development role after seeing the work they did for years as a partner with his customers. When he isn’t working, he loves spending time with his beautiful wife and two children and traveling to complete his goal of seeing every MLB stadium.

Hans Frei

Director of Engineering

Hans started his career with Automation Group in 2008 as a project engineer.  He has grown in his role over the last 14 years from a controls engineer, senior controls engineer, to his current role as a technical manager.  Hans’ current position splits his time working on engineering projects with the engineering team, teaching and expanding Automation Group’s internal learning courses, and working to fulfill Automation Group as a CSIA accredited member. He started his career in controls with R.F. MacDonald working on boiler systems after getting his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Westmont College and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from University of California, Santa Barbara.  In 2014 Hans gained his professional engineering license in control system engineering (CS 7498). Hans has been married for 12 years to his amazing wife Amanda and is a father of three kids.  He lives in Oakdale and is actively involved in his local church.

Chris Virtue Headshot

Principle Engineer

Chris began his career in controls systems in 2005. Chris’s first job in the field was a control panel builder. Chris was determined to learn controls, so he built himself a home lab where he learned how to use Rockwell software and process programming. He went on to hold multiple positions, such as maintenance mechanic at a large dairy facility, E&I technician at a green field ethanol facility, and an automation engineer at an ice cream facility in 2009. In 2011, Chris joined Automation Group. Using his experience, Chris continued to learn and develop new skills. Chris was promoted to senior controls engineer in 2015 and later to principal engineer in 2021. During Chris’ journey at Automation Group, his projects have ranged from process control systems such as distillation evaporators, thermal processes, CIP systems, batching, material handling, server systems, etc. Chris performs as a technical lead on projects at Automation Group, managing programming standards, virtualization, and internal libraries.

Technology Solutions Manager

Julio began his career in industrial control systems working as a controls engineer for Automation Group in 2002. In 2007, he decided to work for an OEM company that specializes in state-of-the-art warehouse automation systems (ASRS). In 2009, Julio returned to work as a systems integrator in the Sacramento area, and in 2010, he joined Inductive Automation, one of the world’s fastest-growing SCADA software companies. While working at Inductive Automation, he supported sales, engineering, and training services to help expand the use and implementation of Ignition worldwide. In 2014, he returned to Automation Group as a project manager for the Sacramento office and became a technology solutions manager. He now focuses on supporting Automation Group’s sales team, the PMO and Engineering Manager, and the SXB team.  He is passionate about the manufacturing, automation, and controls industries. That passion has allowed him to travel worldwide, consulting, designing, developing, and commissioning automation projects. He has also been teaching and training hundreds of people in public and private industries throughout his career. He attended Modesto Junior College  and California State University, Stanislaus  where he studied computer science and graphics. He is married with three children and lives in the Modesto area.

Aaron began his automation and controls journey in 1994 as an electrical engineering co-op at Anheuser-Busch Engineering headquarters. Here, his lifelong passion for providing engineering solutions was first developed. Aaron then worked 22 years with other system integration firms across several market verticals providing MCC designs and commissioning, control systems designs and migrations, electrical engineering, computer system validation, power systems, and project management. Now, Aaron is responsible for overseeing technical design reviews, developing standards, and assisting the SXB and engineering leadership groups at Automation Group as a technical manager.

Manufacturing and Electrical Services Manager

Ryan has been in the electrical trade since July of 1995 with twelve years of experience in the field and fifteen years of experience in project management and estimating. He started as an apprentice and worked as a foreman for the first four years. He has performed electrical work in all areas, including water treatment and wastewater, fuel tank farms, wine and beverage industries, cement and aggregate surface mines, and commercial.  He now manages a thriving panel shop and develops Automation Group’s electrical division. He is married with four kids (three girls and one boy), which keeps him very busy attending sporting events for each of them. He started building his second off-road and first race car, which he has worked on since 2018. His personal goal is to race King of the Hammers.

Brian started his career in automation in 2017, working for a global food and beverage manufacturer. As he began his career by making process improvements to packaging lines, he quickly moved into capital project management focusing on new technology implementation. Focusing on server deployments to enable KPI and MES system reporting, his specialty lies in developing meaningful and actionable reporting systems to allow businesses to make intelligent data-driven decisions. Brian joined the Automation Group team at the beginning of 2022 and looks forward to expanding the company’s product offerings in these areas.

Aaron began his journey in automation in 2001, taking a position as a remote field engineer with an automation firm specializing in semiconductor process equipment.  His interest in industrial electrical and control systems, which he developed previously as a journeyman electrician, became the catalyst for his passionate focus on automation.  This focus led to experience in process control systems for oil and gas facilities, water treatment, mining, and aerospace during his career.  He has designed, programmed, commissioned, and managed automated process control projects for major oil companies, state and municipal water agencies, and construction materials production facilities throughout Southern California.  Aaron is part of Automation Group’s PMO team, managing multiple projects and developing future business opportunities.

Pedro began his career in industrial control systems in 2006 as a controls engineer at Rockwell Automation, Brazil, working primarily as a project engineer in beverage, wastewater, and heavy metal industries. In 2010, he joined Rockwell Automation, France as a project lead engineer designing automation projects for oil & gas in several countries in Africa and South America. In 2017, Pedro joined Outbound Technologies in Michigan, USA leading controls projects mainly in the automotive and utility industries. In 2021, he joined Automation Group as a project manager, applying his extensive experience in the automation world to contribute to multiple projects during the company’s growth.

Jason began his controls career as an electrician for a group in Irvine, California while attending college for his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. During his time there, he observed teams in controls doing work that he felt matched his skillsets.  Upon graduation, Jason joined a small integration group in Brea, California, where his passion for controls grew. Once he transitioned into controls, he decided his long-term goal was to be in management. His ability to develop teams and build customer relationships helped him become a branch manager for a startup in Southern California. From that startup, he learned how important it is to be a part of a people-focused company with a culture-first mentality which led him to join Automation Group. Automation Group has been pivotal in Jason’s pursuit to pursue his passion for leadership.

Xavier began his career with Automation Group as an intern in 2015, where his introduction to control systems centered around troubleshooting issues at a tomato processing facility. Through consistent years of interning with Automation Group, Xavier found that he had a knack for troubleshooting, and the experience and knowledge he gained in these early years set him up for a career in the industry. Out of college, his first job was with a small controls integration company. There, he was able to grow in his knowledge of industrial systems centered around the Allen Bradley platform with a mixture of legacy and modern control systems. In 2021, he made his way back to Automation Group, where he has since seen growth from a controls engineer to a project manager. This has come with an exciting life change, moving from the Central Valley to Napa Valley, where he currently exercises his troubleshooting abilities managing projects out of the Napa office.

Seth began his career in industrial systems working on a project management team for Greenfield Automated Distribution Hubs. While performing this role, he completed his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Automation. Upon completing his degree, Seth joined Automation Group as a Controls Engineer at the Napa branch. At the end of 2020, he left Automation Group to relocate to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, where he continued to work as a systems integrator. As Automation Group continued its strategic expansion, Seth returned home to serve as the project manager at Automation Group’s Dallas location.

Amit started his journey in controls and automation in 2016 while completing his bachelor’s in electrical engineering at Pune University. During his second semester, he learned about controls systems. Throughout the course, he discovered the importance of control systems in every industry that automate system processes and operations. He joined a coaching institute that gave him real-time experience with projects on PLC, HMI, and drives. Over time, he decided to complete a master’s in electrical engineering at Cleveland State University. After graduation, he decided to make a career out of it, then joined a company as a project engineer to work with the development and commissioning of PLC and HMIs. Following four years of experience with technical and team leadership, he joined Automation Group as project manager. This role allows him to assist with project monitoring and relationships with the customer working on the scope, progress, costs, and forecast completion of the project.
